Chinese Barbeque Sauce

Chinese barbecue sauce is very different from western barbecue sauces, which are often tomato or mustard-based. While there are variations, Chinese barbecue sauces often contain hoisin sauce, vinegar, sesame oil or paste, and perhaps bean sauce.



  • 1/2  cup  dry sherry
  • 1/2  cup  hoisin sauce
  • 1/2  cup  ketchup
  • 2  tablespoons  minced peeled fresh ginger
  • 2  tablespoons  rice vinegar
  • 1  tablespoon  honey
  • 2  teaspoons  Sriracha (hot chile sauce, such as Huy Fong)
  • 1/4  teaspoon  five-spice powder
  • 1  garlic clove, minced


How to make Chinese Barbeque Sauce


Step One


Mix all the ingredients together


Step Two


Heat and simmer over a low head for about five minutes
